A commissioned restoration and customization. The shoe was based around the character Kuromi from the Japanese anime “Onegai My Melody.” After deep cleaning the shoes, de-yellowing the soles, and ironing out (most) of the toe box creasing, I painted an orange to pink to purple gradient. I then painted the swooshes white with drips and did two Kuromi portraits on the outside of each shoe. I added some details to the shoe to break up the chunky whiteness of the Af1 mid. Sticking with the pink and black color palette of Kuromi I painted the eyelets, ankle strap, “AIR” and “Nike AIR”. I thought the shoes might look nice with a little more splash of color so I made sure to include pink, purple, black and yellow laces. I also custom sewed ears for the shoes, resembling those on the hood kuromi wears. These are held on by the shoe laces, making them easily removable if the owner so chooses. The more customization the better.
